Glutathione (GSH) is an antioxidant that occurs naturally and is produced by the body. Glutathione is composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. Glutathione exists in two forms: reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG). The reduced form (GSH) is the active and beneficial form that acts as a powerful antioxidant. It donates an electron to free radicals, neutralizing them and converting them into harmless compounds. The oxidized form (GSSG) is a byproduct of this process and needs to be recycled back into its reduced form for optimal functioning.
