It has been recently announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that EDTA can now be used to treat lead poisoning. The main goal of EDTA chelation therapy is to eliminate heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and mercury from the bloodstream. Accumulation of these metals in the body has been linked to various health problems, including cardiovascular disease.

 

During the therapy, a healthcare professional will slowly administer a solution containing EDTA. The procedure usually involves several sessions over a few weeks or months, depending on the patient's condition. Apart from EDTA, the IV solution used in chelation therapy may contain other components like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to support overall health and improve the treatment's effectiveness. These may include vitamin C, B vitamins, magnesium, and selenium.
